MIEDO≠FEAR
Posted on by admin on July 15th, 2012 | Comments Off on MIEDO≠FEAR
Topo Copy Crew member Topo left to spread some Topo Copy love & products in The big Apple. He was invited to participate in MIEDO≠FEAR, and it seems like he’s putting some Topo Copy prints up 2, …
MIEDO ≠ FEAR
Art by DEEDOCK, El Hase, Elle, Hellbent, ND’A, Radical, Starsky Brines, Topo & Vivenes
LP gallery located at 45-10 Davis Street, Long Island city, NY.
These two words are the exact literal translation of each other, but at the same time they differ in concept. Miedo is Fear in English, but the concept of Fear for the United States culture is totally different from what Miedo means in Venezuela. This difference is established from the basis of social interaction, political structure, moral and ethics, personal and even in the day-to-day life.
MIEDO≠FEAR is a study, a look into the United States and the Venezuelan culture through their perception of Fear. How each culture sees, manages, controls and prevents it. In the United States, Fear is a method of control frequently used by the government, “terrorism” is a threat to the citizens, external or strange triggers cause it… In Venezuela, Miedo has become a way of life because of the high levels of insecurity, a problem denied by the government; people are afraid of getting robbed, kidnapped, or even killed every day, they don’t trust anyone.
MIEDO≠FEAR is a collective exposition of 4 Venezuelan artists, and 5 United States artists, that will take over Local Project, dividing the space in 2, and filling it out with art that reflects the difference between Fear and Miedo.
This exhibition is a work in progress format in which you will be able to see the artists work as it evolves. The 9 artists will be painting during the whole exhibition* wood planks on the street that then will be hang in the gallery. As a concussion of this experience we will have a Street Party with local and Venezuelan DJ’s.
*We will post painting schedules in the next few days.
